We're Alive!

Today's writer:Klemm
As most of you probably already know, WE MADE IT!  We're a little slow to the blog, but we're here now so don't you worry!  We'll do our best to make our posts short and sweet but keep you updated on our "livin the dream" life in Aussie :)
To sum up our first few days in two words:  JET LAG...or maybe it was just exhaustion from all the LUGGAGE we have!!  Let's just say we're the only two backpackers in this country with suitcases...enough said!
In Sydney we were pretty much walking zombies, but managed to see the Opera House (which Shan has a building obsession with, if that's possible?) and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Day 2 we made our way to our program orientation.  In the rush to get there, I managed to almost be backed into by a taxi.  Seconds later Shan says, "You should have gotten hit so we could get some money!"  That would have made the job hunt easy ;)
After a couple days downtown we decided to check out the suburb Glebe and thought we would save ourselves the $2 bus ride and walk instead...BAD idea.  We were sweating by block two, our suitcases were sweating as well, we were taking water breaks and there was literally another hill each corner we turned... excess baggage lesson learned #2.  It rained both days in Glebe, we went to a market, had Crackhead Caroline as our roomate from Ireland, and needless to say, we took the bus back to the Sydney to arrive at our 3rd hostel in 5 days.
The next couple days we went to Bondi Beach, the Sydney Aquarium, and saw Crab Racing at a bar.  Shan's crab was litereally going to win the race when it decided the curl up in its shell and go to sleep...weird.  So much for $100 off a flight anywhere...grrr!
Less than a week in Sydney and the lil Midwest girls were ready to ditch the huge international city and head on to the Sunshine Coast.  Before we could escape the city, why not learn excess baggage lesson #3??  We thought we had done our research on the amount of luggage allowed, but boy were we WRONG!  Apparently you can't just add another bag here for a charge, instead they charge by each additional kg?  That's right, what's a kg?  So we were THOSE GIRLS in the airport in front of the check in stand trying to stuff our purses with anything and everything, get our carry ons up to 7kg, and layering on our clothes while the hundreds of people in line watched!  After all our efforts we still paid about $75 each in excess baggage, brutal!
It has only been a week and we have had plenty of "those girls" moments, hence the name of the blog.  We'll see what the Sunshine Coast brings us!
