Bye Bye Bali, Hello Singapore!

Today's writer:  Klemm
We last left you as we had arrived in Ubud, which turned out to be one of our favorite places in Bali!  Here are a few highlights from our last 4 days in Bali:
-Went to the central markets where Shannon was literally followed around by an old lady trying to sell her wooden monkey's...let's just say I don't think the lady was happy when I took this picture and unfortunately no wooden monkeys were purchsed...

The ladies at the market also loved when I wore a jumper I had purchased days earlier as they shouted to me as if my name was Jumpsuit, "JUMPSUIT, yeeees, jumpsuit lady...more colors, juuuumpsuit!"
-We were reunited with Benjamin, our French friend we met in Australia :)  We tried to make him try local food, but he wasn't having it...here's a specialty we took our chances on one day...using only a small piece of bamboo as our spoon...

-Hired a driver for the day whose slogan was "Sexy Transport, Sexy Driver, Sexy Prices"...wasn't expecting the junker he picked us up in, but it survived the day!  Checked out some temples, a volcano, and some amazing rice terraces where Shan tortured a little girl with the game "Up high, To the side, Down low....too slow!"

-Tasted some of the local rice wine (Arak) which can be summed up as tasting like burned wood/plastic in your mouth.  Yum!  I'm still proud to say I was the only one to finish my glass...who lets alcohol go to waste? *Cough* Shannon *cough*
-Shan took a cooking class and yes, she will be cooking for everyone when we get home!
-Half hour massage for $6, yes please :)
Finally we headed to the airport at 3 am to fly to Singapore!!
Sooo I'll admit it, we didn't do the best job of exploring Singapore on our first day...I swear it was a combination of our lack of sleep from the early flight and the terrible terrible heat!  Hence our motto, "Singapore Rocks" that we came up with after finding ourselves back at our hostel soaking up the AC after being in the country for only 3 hours...oops :)  Here's Shan during one of our "AC breaks" in some random store:

-Gotta love arriving in a country with no accommodation booked, a huge bag on your back, and crazy heat only for hostel after hostel to say, "Sorry we're full."  Only after 4 hostels did we find out the Formula 1 Grand Prix was going on that weekend...perfect!
-Our next few days were a little more productive.  We checked out multiple mosques, temples, and the riverfront.  Also, not only did they have Chinatown, but Little India too; where we were definitely the odd people out as we used silverware to eat with, rather than our hands!
-Overall, Singapore was short and sweet as we only spent 4 days there, but it was very clean, orderly, and had some amazing buildings!

Hope everyone is doing well!  Until next time....
SINGAPORE ROCKS!!!

sorry the pics didnt seem to work in this entry....
