Once again it has been a while, because Shannon's technology A.D.D. has kicked into full force so I apologize, but you are stuck with me again for this blog. We last left you taking a long bus ride from the east back to the west side of Thailand, where we finally arrived in Krabi. We then took a longtail boat to Rai Leh Beach where we literally met Pearl from "The Landlord" on YouTube. If you haven't seen this clip, watch it! "YOU PAY NOW!!" We asked if she wanted help with the lock and she said, "No" as she proceeded to pull up a chair in order to reach it!
After a day on the beaches here, we decided to head to Koh Phi Phi, the place where the movie "The Beach" was filmed. Once again, if you haven't seen this movie, you should watch it, this place was UNREAL! The perfect place to celebrate our 1 year Travel Anniversary...oops, were we supposed to be home after one year??! Don't worry, after 1 year we are still friends and have managed not to kill one another...although she did give me a black eye, ooor was that a massive mosquito attack? Either way, I think I may have been the loser here??
We attempted to beat the tourist crowd by hiring a longtail boat at 7:30am to check out Maya Bay, the actual beach where the movie was filmed. Believe it or not, we still weren't the first ones there, but needless to say it was unbelievable and impossible to describe. Somehow we even managed to get 5.5 hours out of our longtail driver when we had only agreed upon 3 hours...dang we're good :)
I also agreed to go scuba diving even after they told me I might see sharks. Don't worry, they were only reef sharks which are usually pretty scared of humans...lucky for me they weren't hungry because I ended up getting to see 7 the day I did my dive!
After Koh Phi Phi, we headed to Phuket. We got there just in time for the weekend night markets which were ridiculous. They had anything and everything you could imagine so of course we had to make room to sample some things.
While in Phuket we checked out a couple beaches. Patong beach was supposed to be similar to Vegas but I think it was more like Vegas as a baby. Here Shan had some trouble keeping the boys off of her....the 11 year old boys that is! Or the guys EVERYWHERE trying to convince us to go to a "Ping Pong" show, and no, it's not a nice game of table tennis you might be imagining. I'll let you look this one up if you please, but it wasn't hard to refuse the offers.
After that we checked out Karon beach for a few days while we tried to figure out the flood situation in Bangkok. We also did a tour to check out Phang Nga Bay a.k.a. "James Bond Island"...so we haven't even seen this movie, but maybe the picture will make more sense to you if you have. We also realized tours are ridiculous and we should go ahead and not do them in the future.
Since the flooding in Bangkok was the worst in Thailand's history we decided it might not be a good idea to swim in and out of Bangkok. We were pretty bummed having to skip the capitol all together, but figured it would be best to fly north...so that's what we did. Chaing Mai here we come!
